IT Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

This role will require travel to our on‑site Data Centre in Manchester. As a TechOps Engineer, you will facilitate the management and extension of the systems and platforms used internally to deliver consultant services to our customers. It is a hands‑on technical position covering infrastructure, networking and Linux.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, patch, troubleshoot, document and monitor physical and virtual network, server and cloud infrastructure with a strong security focus.
• Diagnose and resolve issues in line with published SLAs, delivering a customer‑focused service.
• Lead design and architectural development of IT systems, collaborating with departments and stakeholders on complex global solutions.
• Mentor team members, sharing experience and expertise.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a TechOps or Infrastructure Engineer role or a similar technical IT position.
• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a larger team.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt quickly to fix issues.
• Confidence in applying security hardening to various infrastructure components.

Required skills

• Linux administration (Ubuntu/Debian/RHEL).
• Automation using Ansible.
• Virtualisation (VMWare, KVM, XEN, on‑prem cloud).
• Scripting (Bash, Python, PHP, etc.).
• Networking (switching, routing, firewalling, proxy, VPN).
• Enterprise monitoring and logging.
• Version control with Git.
• Containerisation (Docker, Docker‑Compose, Podman, LXC).
• Enterprise storage (SAN, DAS, NAS, RAID, FDE, SED).
• Datacenter experience and enterprise backups (Veeam).
• Server hardware knowledge (Dell, HP) and Windows Server/Domain.
