IT Operations Technician

About the role

We are seeking an IT Operations Technician to join Barchester Healthcare’s national IT team. The role is remote, supporting our portfolio of care homes and hospitals across the UK, with regular travel to Inverness and other sites as needed.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain the Barchester IT operating environment across all locations.
• Provide first‑, second‑ and third‑line support to users, including remote management of desktops and laptops.
• Monitor and optimise the performance of computer networks and servers.
• Manage firewalls, Wi‑Fi equipment (access points, switches, controllers) and WAN connections (ADSL, FTTC).
• Deliver infrastructure projects that support digital transformation initiatives.
• Collaborate with software developers, procurement managers and senior IT staff.
• Maintain accurate inventories and documentation of IT assets.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP and networking concepts.
• Experience with both wired and wireless LANs and WAN technologies.
• Ability to develop and communicate technical specifications.
• Proven experience installing and troubleshooting IT equipment in structured environments.
