Laboratory Assistant – Quality Control & Development

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Laboratory Assistant to join a busy, modern materials‑testing laboratory in Chorley. The role combines routine quality‑control testing with development projects, supporting product quality, innovation and customer‑focused solutions. You will work within a supportive team, operating analytical equipment and handling a high volume of material tests.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine QC testing on raw materials, in‑process samples and finished products.
• Carry out thermal analysis using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Gas Chromatography (GC).
• Conduct viscosity measurements, dimensional checks and other physical property tests.
• Operate, maintain and calibrate laboratory machinery and testing equipment.
• Record, analyse and report test data, flagging out‑of‑specification results.
• Support batch release decisions and ensure compliance with internal quality standards.
• Assist product development and improvement projects, including trial batches and formulation adjustments.
• Investigate quality issues and provide data‑driven solutions for customers.
• Prepare samples, manage test requests, store chemicals safely and control stock of consumables.
• Maintain Good Laboratory Practice, housekeeping, calibration checks and health‑and‑safety requirements.

Required profile

• Previous experience working in a laboratory or materials‑testing environment.
• Practical experience with analytical or physical testing equipment.
• Ability to work accurately while managing routine batch testing.
• Attention to detail and adherence to quality and safety procedures.
