L&D Course Designer and Instructor

About the role
Serco is seeking a Learning & Development Course Designer and Instructor to support the Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS) contract for the UK Ministry of Defence. This 12‑month fixed‑term position is full‑time and hybrid, based at the MOD Abbey Wood site with occasional travel to Army HQ in Andover and remote work 2‑3 days per week.
Key responsibilities
- Design and deliver blended learning solutions, including face‑to‑face, virtual instructor‑led training (VILT), digital modules and workplace learning.
- Translate business needs and subject‑matter expert input into learner‑focused designs aligned with the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT).
- Produce design documentation such as storyboards, scripts, lesson plans and facilitator guides.
- Collaborate with digital designers and developers to create engaging, accessible eLearning content.
- Partner with stakeholders to shape learning requirements, ensure relevance and maintain quality standards.
- Support delivery planning, quality assurance and continuous improvement using learner feedback and performance data.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of course design, LMS platforms and digital learning tools.
- Instructional or teaching qualification (minimum L3 recognised, preferably DSAT‑aligned).
- Understanding of L&D models, blended learning and user‑centred design.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work creatively, manage priorities and drive continuous improvement.
- Commercial L&D experience and DSAT experience are desirable.
- Eligibility to obtain BPSS and SC security clearance and willingness to travel within the UK.
