Learning Mentor – Year 5 & 6 English & Maths Support

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Learning Mentor to join a Brent‑based primary school from September 2026. The role focuses on supporting Year 5 pupils as they transition to Year 6 and strengthening Year 6 pupils’ confidence and achievement in English and Mathematics ahead of Key Stage 2 SATs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one and small‑group interventions in English and Mathematics.
• Work alongside class teachers to reinforce learning objectives and identify pupils needing extra support.
• Help Year 5 pupils develop literacy, numeracy and study skills for a smooth transition to Year 6.
• Build positive relationships, encouraging confidence, motivation and a growth mindset.
• Monitor progress, keep accurate intervention records, and liaise with teachers and parents/carers.
• Assist with SATs preparation, revision sessions and examination techniques.
• Promote positive behaviour, independence and effective learning habits.

Required profile

• Caring, enthusiastic and patient individual with a passion for helping children succeed.
• Experience working with primary‑aged children, especially Key Stage 2.
• Good understanding of the Year 5 and Year 6 English and Mathematics curriculum.
• Confidence delivering one‑to‑one and small‑group interventions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational abilities.
