About the role
We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work with primary‑aged boys who have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in a rural special school. The role is full‑time on a long‑term supply basis and focuses on creating a supportive learning environment that promotes independence and personal development.
Key responsibilities
- Support the teacher in delivering the National Curriculum and adapt lessons for individual or small groups.
- Plan, organise and deliver educational and work‑related activities tailored to SEMH pupils.
- Share responsibility for the physical care and safety of students throughout the school day.
- Maintain accurate records of student achievement, progress and assessment data.
- Manage classroom resources and ensure student work is displayed effectively.
- Communicate clearly with staff, parents, external agencies and the wider community.
Required profile
- Understanding of SEMH requirements and experience with the National Curriculum.
- Ability to work collaboratively under the direction of teaching staff.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
- Strong communication skills for liaising with parents and external partners.
Required skills
- GCSE grade A‑C (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
- Experience in planning and contributing to curriculum delivery for special educational needs.
- Competence in continuous assessment and monitoring of pupil progress.
