Learning Support Assistant – Secondary School (Braintree)

About the role

A welcoming secondary school in Braintree is looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join the team from September. The role is full‑time and initially temporary, with the possibility of becoming permanent. You will work closely with teachers to help students of varying abilities access the curriculum and build confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide in‑class support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Work one‑to‑one and with small groups, including pupils with SEN.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive lessons.
• Support students with additional learning needs such as ASD, ADHD, and SEMH.
• Help manage behaviour positively and effectively.
• Encourage student independence and confidence.
• Assist with preparation of resources and classroom organisation.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with young people in a school or similar environment.
• A strong interest in education and supporting student development.
• Patient, proactive and flexible approach.
• Good communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Experience supporting SEN students is desirable but not essential.
