Legal Disrepair Building Surveyor

About the role

This position is for an experienced Building Surveyor who will lead the investigation and resolution of legal disrepair cases for a housing association in North West London. You will provide technical expertise, ensure compliance with legislation and health‑and‑safety standards, and work closely with legal, housing and contractor teams.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out detailed inspections and surveys of properties subject to legal disrepair claims.
• Identify defects, determine causes and recommend appropriate remedial actions.
• Prepare comprehensive reports, schedules of work, specifications and cost estimates.
• Provide technical advice and evidence to support case management and resolution.
• Coordinate with internal legal teams, external solicitors and contractors to progress cases.
• Monitor contractor performance to ensure works are completed to the required standard and within agreed timescales.
• Conduct post‑inspection checks to verify satisfactory completion of remedial works.
• Track expenditure, ensure value for money and contribute to asset‑management insights.

Required profile

• A recognised Building Surveying or construction‑related qualification.
• Professional membership of a recognised surveying institute (e.g., RICS) is preferred.
• Experience in handling legal disrepair or similar housing‑related cases.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, health and safety regulations and housing standards.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and reports.
