About the role
The Legal Officer will support the effective administration of tribunals on a national scale, working within the Social Security and Child Support team at the Regional Hearing Centre in Leeds. Reporting to a Senior Legal Officer and senior judiciary, you will make case‑management decisions using delegated judicial powers to ensure timely and fair progression of appeals.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake complex case work and assessments to advance caseloads.
- Make informed, evidence‑based decisions on appeals and case progression.
- Liaise with internal HMCTS colleagues and external stakeholders to facilitate justice delivery.
- Apply delegated judicial powers under supervision to manage tribunal cases.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with procedural guidelines.
Required profile
- Law degree or equivalent technical experience demonstrating decision‑making aptitude.
- Ability to reflect on issues and take an impartial, evidence‑based approach.
- Strong communication skills for interaction with a wide range of court users and stakeholders.
- Capability to work independently while collaborating with a wider team.
