Locum Consultant – Ophthalmology (Oculoplastics, Lacrimal & Cataract)

About the role

The Ophthalmology department at Queen Alexandra Hospital is seeking a full‑time, one‑year locum consultant to deliver comprehensive Oculoplastics and Cataract services. The role also includes participation in emergency and general ophthalmology, with on‑call duties.

Key responsibilities

• Run Oculoplastics outpatient clinics (2‑3 sessions per week) and cataract clinics (1‑2 sessions).
• Conduct general/emergency ophthalmology clinics (1 session weekly).
• Perform Oculoplastics operating sessions (1‑2 per week) and cataract operating sessions (1 per week).
• Provide on‑call cover with a 1:12 rota.
• Support the Lacrimal Service jointly with ENT and attend the monthly Periocular Oncology MDT.
• Potentially contribute to the Head & Neck MDT.
• Engage in departmental teaching, research, morbidity & mortality meetings and regional training collaborations.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practice on the Specialist Register (or imminent).
• FRCOphth (or equivalent) qualification.
• Completed Oculoplastic fellowship.
• Proven experience in Oculoplastics, cataract and lacrimal surgery.
• Commitment to teaching, research and multidisciplinary teamwork.
