Machine Shop Manager

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Machine Shop Manager to lead our Chelmsford facility. In this permanent position you will be responsible for overseeing daily shop operations, meeting production targets and upholding the highest quality and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and motivate a team of machinists and technicians.
• Plan and control production schedules, allocating resources to satisfy customer demand.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and industry regulations.
• Identify and implement process improvements to boost efficiency and productivity.
• Manage budgets, control costs and maintain accurate inventory levels.
• Collaborate with engineering and design teams to streamline manufacturing processes.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a manufacturing leadership role, preferably within a machine shop environment.
• Strong understanding of machining processes, tools and equipment.
• Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.
• Effective communication skills with both team members and senior management.
• Proactive problem‑solver focused on continuous improvement.
