Maintenance Operative – Property Repairs & Grounds

About the role

We are seeking a self‑motivated Maintenance Operative to join our housing team in the North East. You will work across a portfolio of residential properties, delivering repairs, decoration, garden upkeep and general grounds work to keep homes safe, functional and welcoming.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance, decoration and repair tasks across multiple properties.
• Perform garden maintenance, including mowing lawns and trimming hedges.
• Maintain pathways, walkways and other external areas.
• Handle removal jobs such as rubbish disposal and moving items between sites.
• Record all work accurately and report any issues.
• Communicate professionally with tenants, colleagues and external contractors.
• Support wider team projects and ad‑hoc duties as required.

Required profile

• Self‑motivated, enthusiastic and able to work independently.
• Good health‑and‑safety awareness and ability to follow safe working practices.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive, can‑do attitude.
• Excellent communication skills and a customer‑focused approach.

• Basic garden and grounds‑keeping skills.
• Ability to use hand tools and basic power tools safely.
