Mechanical Design Engineer – Internal Combustion Powertrain

About the role

Red Bull Powertrains is seeking Mechanical Design Engineers to develop high‑performance internal combustion hardware for Formula 1 power units. You will apply first‑principles physics and cutting‑edge technology to create, test, and optimise components that drive championship‑winning cars.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engineering solutions that meet agreed specifications, program plans and cost targets.
• Investigate, contain and resolve faults to ensure uninterrupted power‑unit operation.
• Create, collate and communicate engineering direction to key stakeholders.
• Produce and release detailed 3D models and 2D technical drawings using Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
• Remove mechanical limitations to support performance development and deployment.
• Contribute actively to the growth of the team and department.

Required profile

• Experience developing detailed requirements from an engineering scope.
• Proficiency with a major CAD package for 3D modelling and 2D drawing production.
• Ability to deliver engineering direction when data is imperfect.
• Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent experience.
• Proven track record in fault investigation, containment and rectification.
• Design‑for‑manufacture experience that improves quality, reduces cost and lead‑time without sacrificing performance.
• Capability to design from clean‑sheet using first principles.
