Mechanical Engineer – M&E Shift Engineer (London)

About the role

We are seeking a mechanically‑biased M&E Shift Engineer to join our on‑site engineering team at the iconic Shell Centre in London. The role combines planned preventative maintenance with reactive works across a complex commercial building, including a unique river water cooling system.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical and electrical building services.
• Maintain and support the river water cooling system and associated plant.
• Diagnose, repair and test M&E and public health systems.
• Complete statutory maintenance tasks in line with SLA/KPI targets.
• Update maintenance records using Maximo PDA.
• Support contractor management, permits, isolations and RAMS procedures.
• Participate in the call‑out rota and provide out‑of‑hours support.
• Assist the Shift Leader and wider team to ensure compliant, efficient service delivery.

Required profile

• Recognised mechanical qualification or apprenticeship.
• Strong mechanical engineering background with additional electrical knowledge.
• 4–5 years’ experience in M&E/building services within a commercial environment.
• Experience with boilers, pressurisation units, cooling systems, pumps, HVAC, water and public health systems.
• Proven fault‑finding and maintenance experience across M&E assets.
• Good understanding of health & safety and compliance procedures.
• Previous experience as a Competent Person or Authorised Person is advantageous.
