MMA Welder - Naval Shipbuilding

About the role

Babcock is recruiting MMA (Manual Metal Arc) welders at its historic Devonport Royal Dockyard, the largest naval base in Western Europe and a key support for the Royal Navy. The role sits at the heart of major shipbuilding, submarine and infrastructure projects, supporting the fabrication, repair and structural integrity of naval vessels and heavy engineering assets. It is full time and permanent, with multiple vacancies.

Key responsibilities

• Apply MMA welding to a range of heavy-duty marine and structural components
• Work on submarines, surface ships, dockside infrastructure and controlled factory environments
• Operate welding and some fabrication equipment to a consistently high standard
• Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, procedures and technical specifications from a welding perspective
• Work with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to meet tight safety and performance targets

Required profile

• Must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance; eligibility may depend on place of birth, nationality, citizenship and residency
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical instructions
• A drive to own and shape your own career development

Required skills

• Strong capability in MMA/Stick welding on heavy plate or structural steel
