Plater / Fabricator - Submarine Maintenance

About the role

Babcock is recruiting Plater/Fabricators for its historic Devonport Royal Dockyard, the largest naval base in Western Europe. The role sits at the heart of the submarine maintenance programme, supporting the repair, maintenance and modification of the UK's fleet of submarines and warships. Multiple vacancies are available, full time and permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Perform structural repairs to steel hulls and decks using burning and grinding techniques
• Translate engineering documents into fabrication plans
• Install and join plate, steel and structural materials
• Fabricate and assemble plate and steelwork using specialist tools and equipment
• Cut, shape and assemble steel plates and components

Required profile

• Proven experience in structural steel repair and fabrication
• Indentured Apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in fabrication, structural steel or sheet metal work (essential)
• Experience in marine engineering or similar sectors such as the Royal Navy, RFA or commercial shipbuilding
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
• Strong understanding of safety and quality standards in heavy engineering
• Must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance; eligibility depends on place of birth, nationality and residency
