Payroll Specialist

About the role

Thought Machine is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join its global payroll team. Reporting to the Payroll Lead, you will support payroll operations across the UK, APAC, EMEA and the Americas, helping the company scale its payroll processes as it expands.

Key responsibilities

• Support global payroll processes and controls, working with external payroll providers.
• Execute payroll deliverables, payments and statutory reporting for seven countries, ensuring compliance with local legislation.
• Participate in future payroll implementations and lead process optimisation initiatives in partnership with HR.
• Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely payroll‑related spend.
• Lead or support ad‑hoc projects as the business expands internationally.
• Respond to payroll queries and manage user accounts.
• Ensure employee benefits are correctly aligned with providers and prevent leakage.
• Adhere to strict cut‑off timelines and payroll scheduling.

Required profile

• Experience managing payroll across multiple jurisdictions.
• Strong knowledge of local payroll legislation in the countries covered.
• Ability to work with external payroll advisors and internal finance teams.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Project‑oriented mindset with a track record of delivering payroll‑related initiatives.
