Payroll Transformation Project Manager

About the role

The Payroll Transformation Project Manager will lead the delivery of a major payroll transformation programme for a large organisation in Liverpool. You will be responsible for planning, governing and reporting on multiple workstreams to move 450 employees from weekly to monthly pay and to upgrade the Time and Attendance system.

Key responsibilities

• Define and manage the project plan, milestones, risks and governance for the payroll transformation programme.
• Provide regular status reports to the Group HR Director and steering committees.
• Coordinate the transition of approximately 450 staff from weekly to monthly payroll.
• Oversee the review, enhancement, testing and rollout of the Time and Attendance system.
• Manage dependencies across Payroll, HR, Finance, IT, Learning & Development, Operations and employee representative groups.
• Identify and mitigate risks, issues and barriers, escalating where necessary.
• Build and maintain constructive relationships with trade union representatives at national, regional and local levels.
• Organise consultation, communication and training activities for affected employee groups and unions.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading payroll or HR transformation projects.
• Strong governance, risk‑management and reporting capabilities.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills across multiple business functions.
• Ability to work collaboratively with trade unions and employee groups.
• Experience coordinating large‑scale change involving payroll frequency and time‑keeping systems.
