Plant/Vehicle Technician

About the role

The Plant/Vehicle Technician will join the Vehicle Fleet Management team within the London Borough of Hounslow. You will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing a range of light and heavy goods vehicles to DVSA standards, ensuring the council’s services run smoothly for residents.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out vehicle inspections and repairs on HGV and LGV fleets to meet DVSA compliance.
• Document inspection results and repair actions in line with O Licence and DVSA requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and parts usage.
• Support the Head of Fleet in achieving high vehicle availability and minimal service disruption.
• Work a split‑shift pattern and adapt to the needs of a busy team.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic learner willing to develop technical expertise.
• Flexibility to work split shifts and adapt to changing priorities.
• Basic DBS clearance.

Required skills

• Level 3 HGV mechanical qualification.
• Extensive knowledge of HGV and LGV defect finding and repair to DVSA standards.
• Ability to complete inspection and repair documentation accurately.
