Practice Accountant

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Practice Accountant to join our friendly, collaborative team in Colchester. You will work with a diverse portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, delivering high‑quality accounting, tax and business advisory services.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare year‑end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Produce and submit Self Assessment and Corporation Tax returns.
• Prepare and review VAT returns, ensuring compliance with current legislation.
• Process payroll and manage PAYE‑related matters.
• Provide day‑to‑day accounting, tax and business advice to clients.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, responding to queries professionally.
• Use cloud‑based accounting software such as Xero, Sage and QuickBooks.
• Support and mentor junior team members where required.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent).
• Recent experience working within an accountancy practice.
• Confidence in preparing statutory accounts, Self Assessment and Corporation Tax returns.
• Solid understanding of VAT, payroll and general practice compliance.
