Principal Designer – Building Regulations & CDM

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Designer to lead Building Regulations (BR) and Construction (CDM) compliance for large‑scale residential and mixed‑use projects in London. The role involves planning, managing, coordinating and monitoring compliance throughout the design and delivery phases.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Building Regulations compliance strategies for new build, retrofit and adaptive‑reuse projects.
• Coordinate CDM 2015 duties, ensuring health and safety obligations are met across all design stages.
• Work closely with design teams, technical architects and architectural technologists to integrate compliance requirements.
• Monitor and audit compliance documentation, providing guidance and corrective actions as needed.
• Liaise with client and regulatory bodies to address compliance issues and obtain approvals.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a technical architect, architectural technologist or design manager.
• Demonstrated delivery of Principal Designer services under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
• Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations for both higher‑risk and non‑higher‑risk buildings.
• Experience working on large residential and mixed‑use developments.
