Principal Fire Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Fire Engineer to lead the delivery of fire safety solutions for complex, high‑risk buildings across the UK, primarily in the South of England and Greater London. The role combines technical leadership, client interaction and mentorship within a growing consultancy based in Norwich.

Key responsibilities

• Apply advanced fire engineering principles to complex building projects.
• Develop and deliver fire strategies for higher‑risk developments.
• Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, British Standards and relevant engineering codes.
• Provide expert advice on escape routes, evacuation, fire service access and structural fire resistance.
• Support clients in negotiations with Building Control, Fire Authorities and other regulators.
• Lead fire engineering delivery across multiple national projects and provide technical assurance.
• Manage, mentor and support surveyors and junior fire engineers.
• Communicate complex fire engineering concepts to clients, regulators and internal teams.

Required profile

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, registered with the Engineering Council.
• Minimum 10 years post‑graduate fire engineering experience.
• Accredited BEng/MEng degree in Fire Engineering or related discipline.
• Full membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE or above) or equivalent.
• Proven experience delivering fire strategies for complex, higher‑risk buildings.
• Willingness to travel nationally and hold a full UK driving licence.
