Principal Research Scientist - Frontier Industrial AI

About the role

AVEVA’s Frontier Industrial AI research team, part of the Chief Technologist Organization, is seeking a Principal Research Scientist to drive cutting‑edge industrial intelligence. You will work in a hybrid setting across Cambridge and London, collaborating with top AI labs and universities.

Key responsibilities

• Define and lead high‑impact research initiatives in frontier industrial AI.
• Develop new models, algorithms, evaluation methods, and system architectures.
• Build experimental systems and validated prototypes.
• Publish research at leading AI venues and contribute to AVEVA’s patent portfolio.
• Create benchmarks, datasets, and evaluation frameworks for industrial AI.
• Partner with external research institutions and technology partners.
• Translate research hypotheses into prototypes and validated solutions.
• Influence AVEVA’s long‑term AI research strategy.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent research experience in machine learning, AI, computer science, applied mathematics, engineering, or a related field.
• Demonstrated original research through strong publications, patents, open‑source contributions, or prototypes.
• Hands‑on expertise in AI experimentation and software development.
• Ability to identify important problems, formulate hypotheses, and execute with limited structure.
• Deep expertise in at least one area such as foundation models, multimodal learning, time‑series modeling, generative models, reinforcement learning, agentic systems, simulation, world models, representation learning, or AI evaluation.
• Strong scientific judgment, rigorous experimental design, and clear communication skills.
• High agency, intellectual curiosity, and collaborative mindset.
