Principal / Senior Energy Engineer

About the role

Arup is seeking a Principal / Senior Energy Engineer to lead the design of medium‑to‑large scale energy generation and distribution systems for building developments. Based in London, you will work across the full project lifecycle, from strategy and feasibility to on‑site completion.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary teams on energy engineering projects.
• Manage client, project team and stakeholder interfaces.
• Produce high‑quality proposals to win new work.
• Design and deliver on‑site electricity generation, heat‑pump selection, plant sizing and distribution networks.
• Commercially evaluate energy systems and develop drawings and specifications.
• Survey and assess existing buildings and energy infrastructure.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Energy Engineering.
• Chartered status (or near‑completion).
• Proven experience leading design of energy generation and distribution systems through all project stages.
• Commercial awareness and interest in economics.
• Understanding of building‑integrated and utility‑scale renewables, energy performance standards and regulatory drivers.
• Familiarity with design of energy centres and distribution systems (hot water, steam, chilled water).
