Purchasing and Logistics Manager

About the role

This position leads the purchasing and logistics function for a heavy‑industry client, ensuring the seamless supply of materials, components and services across the UK and internationally. You will develop strategies, manage supplier relationships and support production planning to meet business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement purchasing strategies for all materials, BOC components and subcontract machining.
• Maintain continuity of supply, identify and mitigate risks such as single‑source dependencies and capacity constraints.
• Drive supplier performance through measurement, rating systems and improvement plans.
• Lead negotiations to achieve cost competitiveness and reliable delivery.
• Collaborate with sales and engineering on bids and projects, ensuring realistic lead times and costs.
• Support production planning by securing timely procurement and providing visibility of supply constraints.
• Oversee logistics and stores operations, ensuring accurate inventory, efficient material handling and safe working practices.
• Define, monitor and analyse KPIs for purchasing, logistics and inventory performance.
• Lead continuous‑improvement initiatives to reduce cost and enhance efficiency.

Required profile

• Proven managerial experience in purchasing and logistics within a heavy‑industry or manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of supply‑chain risk management and supplier performance measurement.
• Ability to work closely with cross‑functional teams such as sales, engineering and production.
• Excellent analytical skills and data‑driven decision‑making.
