About the role
Our client, Somerset Council, is seeking a Qualified Social Worker to join the Children in Need service. The role focuses on triaging acute referrals, assessing risk, and providing evidence‑based recommendations to ensure timely support for children and families.
Key responsibilities
- Evaluate and triage all incoming referrals, including Section 17 (Children in Need) and Section 47 (child protection) cases.
- Gather, analyse, and synthesize information to produce clear, balanced recommendations.
- Collaborate with partner agencies within the Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) and participate in safeguarding discussions.
- Maintain accurate records and uphold the council’s equality, diversity and inclusion policies.
- Provide office‑based assessment and intervention for families across Somerset.
Required profile
- Qualified Social Worker with current registration.
- Strong assessment, analytical and decision‑making abilities.
- Experience handling complex, statutory cases under the Children Act.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise risks quickly.
Required skills
- Knowledge of Section 17 (Children in Need) and Section 47 (Child Protection) legislation.
- Familiarity with Early Help Services and Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hub processes.
