Quantity Surveyor - Structural Alterations & Cut & Carve
24-7 Staffing · London
Job description
About the role
A specialist contractor delivering complex demolition, enabling works, structural alterations and heavy structural "cut and carve" schemes in inner-city London is seeking a commercially sharp, technically minded Quantity Surveyor. You will take commercial ownership of these projects from pre-construction through to final accounts, navigating the unique variables of high-risk structural activities, temporary works, waste and scrap metal recycling credits and rapidly changing on-site conditions. The position is full-time and permanent, based at the site office in London.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the full commercial lifecycle of high-profile demolition and major structural alteration / cut and carve projects.
- Identify, price and negotiate variations arising from temporary works, unforeseen site conditions and structural design revisions.
- Procure, manage and settle accounts for specialist subcontractors such as temporary works propping, diamond drilling and scaffolding.
- Prepare and submit monthly valuations, cost-value reconciliations (CVRs) and cash flow forecasts for senior management.
- Administer JCT and NEC contracts, ensuring notices, variations and claims are legally compliant and submitted on time.
- Work with Project Managers to align site delivery milestones with commercial profitability.
Required profile
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or a relevant commercial construction discipline; RICS chartership is a plus but not essential.
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the UK demolition, enabling works or specialist structural frame sector.
- Deep understanding of structural alterations, temporary works propping, facade retention and concrete/steel cut and carve schemes.
- Familiarity with the cost codes of demolition, including salvage credits, hazardous waste disposal and heavy plant logistics.
- Experience handling contract variations under tight inner-city London logistics and structural constraints.
Required skills
- Negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong Excel skills.
What we offer
- Salary of 75,000 to 95,000 pounds per year depending on experience.
- Company vehicle or generous car allowance.
- Corporate pension scheme and private medical insurance.
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
- Performance-related bonus scheme.
