Senior Site Engineer - Demolition, Civils & Structural Alterations
24-7 Staffing · London
Job description
About the role
A specialist contractor working on complex demolition, civils, enabling works, structural alterations and heavy structural "cut and carve" schemes in inner-city London is recruiting a Senior Site Engineer through its client. The role holds technical accountability for these projects, combining high-level engineering oversight with hands-on setting out so that line, level and structural sequencing match the temporary works and structural designs. It is a full-time, permanent position based on site in London.
Key responsibilities
- Provide accurate setting out, line and level establishment and datum controls for demolition boundaries, temporary structural openings and new structural steel and concrete insertions.
- Establish, run and monitor movement grids, verticality checks and line/level control systems to protect third-party structures and facade retention schemes.
- Review and interpret structural drawings, fabrication details and temporary works designs, spotting clashes or discrepancies early.
- Work with the Temporary Works Coordinator so that propping, needling and bracing are installed to line and level requirements.
- Maintain site records including survey documentation, as-built drawings and daily diaries tracking the structural sequence of works.
- Act as the technical link between the Project Manager, structural engineers and the site workforce.
Required profile
- Degree, HND or HNC in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Proven engineering track record in UK demolition, structural alterations or heavy refurbishment.
- Deep practical knowledge of structural sequencing, concrete/steel cut and carve and facade retention systems.
- Valid CSCS White or Black Card, SMSTS and First Aid at Work.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Total Stations (EDM / robotic Leica, Topcon), 3D laser scanners and GPS equipment.
- Expert AutoCAD for extracting coordinates, reviewing designs and producing as-built drawings.
- Ability to turn technical drawings into clear instructions for site crews.
What we offer
- Salary of 65,000 to 85,000 pounds per year depending on experience and portfolio.
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
- Funding for professional development and chartership paths.
