About the role

The Releasing Pharmacist (Band 7) is responsible for final product approval of medicines produced under the MHRA Manufacturer's Specials Licence and related regulations. Working within the pharmacy department, you will ensure each batch meets approved specifications and is fit for its intended use.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform final product release for items covered by MHRA Manufacturer's Specials Licence, Section 10 of the Medicines Act 1968 and Clinical Trials Regulations.
  • Examine finished products for compliance with specifications and decide to release or reject each batch.
  • Consider facility status, staff training, production documentation and final product quality during release decisions.
  • Apply GMP and quality system knowledge to develop and maintain quality control and assurance processes.
  • Prepare and review work instructions, monitor quality, investigate deviations, non‑conformances and complaints, and report to pharmacy management.

Required profile

  • Degree in Pharmacy and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Thorough understanding of GMP and MHRA requirements.
  • Good knowledge of microbiological or chemical QA/QC methods and instrumentation.
  • Experience with aseptic manufacturing or compounding equipment.
  • Previous experience as a Releasing Officer; NHS aseptic services experience is desirable.
