Research and Teaching Associate

About the role

The Institute of Ismaili Studies is seeking an experienced academic to strengthen its education portfolio, with a particular focus on the Secondary Teacher Education Programme (STEP). Reporting to the Co‑Head of the Department of Education, the postholder will combine teaching, supervision, research and academic leadership to ensure programmes remain innovative, learner‑centred and research‑informed.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and continuously enhance STEP and related educational programmes.
• Design, develop and assess curricula, learning materials and assessment strategies.
• Conduct and disseminate educational research aligned with the Institute’s mission.
• Supervise postgraduate research projects and mentor early‑career academics.
• Contribute to departmental strategy, policy development and external partnership activities.
• Support professional development initiatives for educators across diverse international contexts.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in Education, Higher Education or a closely related field.
• Professional recognition such as FHEA, SFHEA or equivalent.
• Significant experience teaching in higher education with a strong record of student achievement.
• Expertise in learning theory, pedagogy, curriculum design, assessment and educational research.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, mentoring and project‑management skills.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion and learner‑centred practice.
