Schemes Underwriter – MGA (UK Insurance Market)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Schemes Underwriter to join a fast‑growing Managing General Agent (MGA) operating in the UK insurance market. The role will focus on developing, managing and driving the profitability of delegated‑authority schemes while working closely with brokers, capacity providers and internal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage a portfolio of delegated‑authority schemes in line with underwriting guidelines and capacity provider requirements.
• Assess risk, pricing and coverage to ensure profitability and regulatory compliance.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, partners and insurers to support scheme growth and retention.
• Monitor scheme performance, including loss ratios and exposure trends, and take corrective action when needed.
• Collaborate with capacity providers on bordereaux reporting, audits and performance reviews.
• Support the design, rating and launch of new schemes.
• Ensure compliance with FCA regulations and internal governance standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of underwriting processes, systems and controls.

Required profile

• Proven experience in schemes or delegated‑authority underwriting within the UK insurance market.
• Strong technical underwriting knowledge across commercial or specialist lines.
• Experience working in an MGA or delegated‑authority environment is highly desirable.
• Ability to analyse data, interpret trends and make commercially sound decisions.
• Excellent broker relationship management and negotiation skills.
• Good understanding of FCA regulatory requirements and conduct risk.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
