School Business Manager (Maternity Cover)

About the role

The school is seeking a School Business Manager on a one‑year maternity cover to support the day‑to‑day operations of an 11‑16 secondary school in Stockton‑on‑Tees. The role works closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team, overseeing finance, HR, administration, compliance, health and safety, and operational management.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the school’s financial management, budgeting and reporting.
• Manage human resources functions including recruitment, payroll and staff records.
• Supervise administrative services and ensure efficient office operations.
• Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, health and safety standards.
• Support the Headteacher and senior leaders in strategic decision‑making.

Required profile

• Experience working within a school environment.
• Strong organisational and financial management abilities.
• Ability to lead and support administrative functions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Capability to work independently while contributing to a leadership team.

What we offer

• Full‑time (37 hours per week) maternity cover contract for one year.
• Salary £39,152‑£41,771 per annum.
