School Caretaker (Full‑time)

About the role

We are seeking a reliable Caretaker to join the premises team of a school in Eastbourne. This full‑time, year‑round position works on a rota and reports directly to the Premises Manager, ensuring the building and grounds are safe, secure and well‑maintained.

Key responsibilities

• Lock and unlock the school premises as required.
• Mow, trim and maintain school lawns and pitches.
• Carry out general building and grounds maintenance tasks.
• Operate and monitor security alarm, CCTV and access‑control systems, and conduct perimeter fence checks.
• Perform regular inspections of building services and keep accurate records.
• Assist with moving and setting up furniture for exams, events and lettings.
• Receive, distribute, collect and dispatch goods.
• Undertake emergency cleaning duties when needed.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a similar caretaker or facilities‑maintenance role.
• Good knowledge of health and safety legislation.
• Willingness to work full‑time on a shift/rota pattern.
• Enhanced DBS clearance will be required.

Required skills

• Health and safety legislation knowledge.
• Operation of security alarm, CCTV and access‑control systems.
• Grounds‑maintenance skills (mowing, strimming).
• Basic building‑services operation and record‑keeping.
