School Caretaker – Hackney (Full‑time, Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated caretaker to join a vibrant school in Hackney, East London. The role is full‑time, Monday‑Friday, and involves ensuring the premises are safe, clean and well‑maintained for students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lock up the site and set the alarm each evening.
• Carry out weekly fire alarm checks and maintain safety protocols.
• Perform general repairs, including fixing doors, windows, sinks, toilets and painting as needed.
• Replace toilet seats, install shelves and pin boards, and manage minor decorating tasks.
• Conduct daily health and safety inspections.
• Oversee contractors, ensuring work meets standards.
• Provide porterage services such as moving furniture and delivering parcels.
• Maintain cleanliness by litter picking, sweeping leaves, emptying bins and restocking supplies.
• Look after the school grounds and perform any additional duties required.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a caretaker or maintenance role is preferred.
• Ability to perform physical tasks and handle a variety of handyperson duties.
• Good knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Reliable, punctual and a strong sense of responsibility.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently.
