SEMH Teaching Assistant – Support Children’s Emotional Well‑Being

About the role
Join a welcoming school in St. Albans as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. You will work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to create a safe, nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with anxiety, behavioural challenges, low confidence and trauma‑related needs.
- Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and social interaction throughout the school day.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and parents to develop tailored support plans.
- Help maintain a calm, inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages resilience and independence.
Required profile
- Patient, empathetic and resilient with a genuine passion for helping young people.
- Strong communicator who can build trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
- Calm and confident when managing challenging situations.
- Committed to professional development within the education sector.
