SEN Teaching Assistant - EYFS ASD Resource Base

About the role

Join a welcoming Brent primary school as a SEN Teaching Assistant in a dedicated EYFS Autism Resource Base. You will support a small group of six children with Autism, working alongside two experienced assistants and under the guidance of the EYFS Lead.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day support for six children with Autism within the specialist resource base.
• Collaborate with two other Teaching Assistants to create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
• Deliver learning activities planned by the EYFS Lead, adapting them to each child’s communication, sensory and developmental needs.
• Facilitate transitions, personal care, sensory regulation and daily routines.
• Apply positive behaviour strategies to promote security and readiness to learn.
• Build strong relationships with pupils, parents and the wider school team.

Required profile

• Patient, nurturing, resilient and proactive.
• Experience supporting children with Autism, preferably in EYFS, SEND or specialist settings.
• Confident working as part of a close‑knit team and following senior staff guidance.
• Knowledge of sensory regulation, visual supports and communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton or Attention Autism (desirable).
• Calm under pressure and able to respond consistently to challenging behaviour.
• Passionate about fostering confidence, independence and a love of learning.
