SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception Class

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a friendly primary school in Hackney, supporting a Reception class from September. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure children with additional needs access the curriculum and develop confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with SEN, including autism and speech & language needs.
• Assist the teacher in adapting learning activities and resources.
• Help pupils develop communication and social skills within the classroom.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and interventions.
• Collaborate with staff, parents, and external professionals to support each child’s development.

Required profile

• Experience working with children in EYFS or primary settings.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEN, particularly autism and speech & language difficulties.
• Patient, nurturing, and positive attitude.
• Ability to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
• Commitment to helping every child reach their potential.
