SEND Casework Officer – £300/day, 35hrs/week, hybrid

About the role

The SEND Casework Officer will support schools, settings and families in applying the graduated approach for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Working mainly remotely with occasional office visits, you will coordinate statutory assessments and ensure timely Education, Health and Care (EHC) planning.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the statutory assessment process for pupils with SEND, managing the EHC plan from assessment through placement and review.
• Work closely with SENCOs, head teachers, High Needs Support Officer, Independent Travel Trainer and multi‑agency partners (social care, health, occupational therapy, educational psychology).
• Ensure statutory timescales are met and that parents/carers are central to all planning and review meetings.
• Attend annual reviews for vulnerable pupils, including Looked‑After Children and those at risk of exclusion.
• Liaise with finance, business support and transport teams to keep placement and cost information up to date.

Required profile

• Experience working within SEND, education, or related multi‑agency environments.
• Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, policy and the graduated approach.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with schools, families and external partners.
• Ability to manage multiple caseloads, meet deadlines and maintain accurate records.

Required skills

• Familiarity with the Education, Health and Care (EHC) planning process.
• Understanding of statutory assessment timelines and personal budget processes.
