Senior Communications Officer

About the role

The Local Authority in Cheshire is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Officer on an interim basis. You will lead high‑profile communications campaigns, ensuring effective engagement with residents, stakeholders and partners across key council services.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver strategic communications and PR campaigns.
• Manage multiple concurrent campaigns within agreed deadlines and budgets.
• Collaborate with internal clients and stakeholders to set measurable objectives.
• Evaluate campaign effectiveness and report on outcomes.
• Commission creative communications materials, publications and digital content.
• Manage reputational risks and respond to sensitive issues.
• Provide strategic communications advice to senior stakeholders.
• Support the development and execution of communications strategies.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering communications and PR campaigns within a complex organisation.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship‑management skills.
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to identify and manage reputational threats effectively.
• Experience commissioning creative communications products and publications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong understanding of strategic communications and its operational delivery.
• Local government or public‑sector experience is highly advantageous.
