Senior Controls Engineer

About the role

Meriden Media is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join its growing engineering team in Clevedon. You will lead the design and development of PLC and HMI software for innovative products, mentor junior engineers, and drive continuous improvement across the controls function.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC and HMI applications for new and existing products.
• Produce and review software specifications, technical documentation, and release notes.
• Conduct software testing, validation, simulation and support project planning.
• Investigate quality issues, provide expert technical support and ensure on‑time delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and deliver technical training across the team.

Required profile

• HND, Degree or equivalent in Controls Engineering, Software Engineering or related field.
• Minimum five years’ experience in controls and software engineering.
• Strong communication, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Required skills

• PLC programming (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Blocks, Data Structures)
• HMI programming using VB.NET or similar high‑level language
• Modbus communications
• Software configuration management and technical documentation
• Understanding of P&ID drawings, electrical schematics, PID control loops, HAZOP and FMEA
