Senior DevOps Manager – Large‑Scale Kubernetes Platform

About the role

We are seeking a senior DevOps leader to drive a multi‑year transformation for a major UK Government department. You will own a platform that runs up to 140,000 Kubernetes nodes across a multi‑cloud environment, delivering faster public services and significant taxpayer savings.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of platform engineers and managers to design, build, and operate a massive Kubernetes footprint.
• Define and implement IaC, CI/CD, and observability practices using Terraform, Ansible, GitOps, Jenkins and related tools.
• Collaborate with cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) to ensure seamless multi‑cloud operations.
• Drive performance, reliability and cost‑optimization at scale.
• Mentor staff, champion certification, and support a transparent promotion pathway.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a senior/lead platform engineer or manager on large‑scale Kubernetes environments.
• Security Clearance (SC) eligibility is mandatory.
• Strong background in multi‑cloud architectures and large‑scale infrastructure automation.

• Kubernetes (Helm, Kops, ServiceMesh, Istio)
• Cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, Azure
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible
• CI/CD: GitOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins
• Observability: OpenTelemetry (OTel), Dynatrace, Grafana
• Linux operating systems (RedHat, Ubuntu, Debian)
