Senior Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a senior embedded software engineer to design and deliver mission-critical tooling for national security and defence customers. The role combines hands-on development on ESP32, Raspberry Pi and ARM platforms with close interaction with end-users on-site.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of bespoke embedded solutions across multiple hardware platforms.
• Design, implement and maintain production-grade C, C++ and Python code that interfaces with peripherals.
• Architect communication protocols, peripheral integration and performance-critical features.
• Drive debugging, testing and optimisation in laboratory and field environments.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to shape requirements and influence delivery plans.
• Support integration, configuration and deployment into secure operational settings.
• Produce high-quality documentation and enforce consistent Git workflows and code-review standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and raise overall team capability.

Required profile

• Extensive hands-on experience in embedded software development.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ (and Python where appropriate).
• Deep knowledge of ESP32, ARM Cortex, Raspberry Pi and other SBCs.
• Solid understanding of low-level interfaces such as UART, GPIO, USB, SPI and I2C.
• Confidence working in Linux-based development environments and toolchains.
• Advanced debugging skills using JTAG/SWD, logic analysers and profiling tools.
• Ability to communicate clearly and influence technical decisions.
