Senior Head of Communications

About the role

The Senior Head of Communications will lead the BBC’s Corporate Press Office and Local media teams, shaping the organisation’s corporate storytelling at a pivotal time. You will act as a senior spokesperson and advisor to senior leadership while managing high‑profile media relations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the seven‑day‑a‑week press office operation.
• Oversee the BBC Local media team.
• Serve as the primary point of referral for complex, sensitive, and high‑risk enquiries.
• Provide strategic communications advice to senior and executive leadership.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level communications experience in a complex, fast‑paced environment.
• Demonstrated creative achievement with strong problem‑solving ability.
• Successful track record of leading, motivating and developing teams.
• High‑level interpersonal skills with credibility to advise senior leaders and engage external stakeholders.
• Deep understanding of communications strategies, audience reach and social‑media practices.
• Enterprise leadership qualities: outcome focus, adaptability, simplification of complexity, accountability and capability development.
