Senior Homelessness Caseworker – Temporary (Crawley, West Sussex)

About the role

This temporary senior position supports the homeless team of a local authority client in Crawley. Working 37 hours per week on a hybrid basis, the caseworker will provide expert advice, assess applications and guide less‑experienced officers.

Key responsibilities

• Interview clients and resolve housing problems, ensuring compliance with the Housing Act Part VII.
• Process homeless applications and write accurate Section 184 decision letters.
• Advise clients on prevention measures and assess eligibility for private‑sector options.
• Support and mentor junior officers within the housing options team.
• Maintain Personal Housing Plans and manage a caseload of 6‑8 officers.
• Respond to complaints, MP enquiries and ensure adherence to the Homelessness Code of Guidance.

Required profile

• Recent experience (within two years) in a similar role for a local authority.
• Strong knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act and Housing & Homelessness Law.
• Ability to handle demanding service users and partners.
• Excellent written communication and administrative skills.
• Availability to start within two weeks and work hybridly near Gatwick Airport.
