Senior Housing Options Officer – Temporary (Crawley, West Sussex)

About the role

Join a leading public‑sector client as a Senior Housing Options Officer on a temporary three‑month contract, with a strong likelihood of extension. Working from Crawley, you will operate in a hybrid model, attending the office up to three days a week, and support the council’s homelessness prevention agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Interview clients and resolve complex housing problems.
• Process homeless applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
• Provide advice to prevent homelessness and assess eligibility for private‑sector options.
• Draft accurate Section 184 decision letters and handle complaints and MP enquiries.
• Maintain and update Personal Housing Plans (PHPs) and manage a caseload within a team of 6‑8 officers.

Required profile

• Recent experience (within two years) in a similar role with a local authority.
• Strong knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act and the Homelessness Code of Guidance.
• Proven ability to work with demanding service users and partner organisations.
• Excellent written communication and administrative skills.

Required skills

• Sound understanding of housing and homelessness legislation.
• Effective IT and admin proficiency for case management.
