Senior Litigation Lawyer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Litigation Lawyer to join a shared legal service that supports Cambridge City Council, Huntingdonshire District Council, and South Cambridgeshire District Council. The role offers a lead position on complex litigation matters, strategic advice to senior officials, and the chance to influence key decisions across housing, prosecution, and licensing.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality, practical legal advice to councillors, chief executives, directors and heads of service.
• Draft and review a wide range of legal documents, including complex matters requiring original analysis.
• Advise at committee meetings, including those with public and press attendance.
• Lead major projects, cross‑service initiatives and the councils’ response to complex complaints.
• Represent the partnership in civil and criminal courts, tribunals and public inquiries.
• Ensure service delivery meets quality standards, performance targets and cost‑effectiveness.
• Supervise, mentor and train junior legal staff; contribute to policy and precedent development.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor, barrister or equivalent with substantial litigation experience.
• Proven ability to handle complex cases and advise senior stakeholders.
• Confident advocate with experience in court and tribunal representation.
• Strong organisational skills and a proactive approach to public‑sector legal service.
