Senior Manager – Accountancy Practice

About the role

We are seeking a commercially minded Senior Manager to lead a diverse portfolio of business and personal tax clients for an ambitious accountancy practice in Bristol. This key leadership position will support partners in driving growth while developing and mentoring the team.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a substantial portfolio of business and personal tax clients.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
• Lead client meetings and provide proactive business advice.
• Review accounts, tax returns, management accounts, and statutory reporting.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
• Mentor and develop Managers, Assistant Managers, and trainees.
• Conduct performance reviews and support career development plans.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching across the team.
• Foster a collaborative, high‑performance culture.
• Identify opportunities to expand services within existing client relationships.
• Contribute to the firm’s growth strategy and revenue targets.
• Monitor workflow, budgets, recoverability, and work‑in‑progress.
• Ensure assignments are completed efficiently and within deadlines.
• Support partners with practice‑management initiatives.
• Drive process improvements and efficiencies across the department.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualified.
• Significant experience within an accountancy practice environment.
• Proven experience managing a portfolio of clients.
• Strong technical accounting and tax knowledge.
• Experience leading and developing teams.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Commercially aware and client‑focused approach.
