Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the torpedo mechanical engineering team in Portsmouth. The role offers hybrid and flexible working arrangements and involves the design, development and support of heavyweight and lightweight torpedo systems for the UK Royal Navy and export customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design new and develop existing electro‑mechanical components for torpedo products.
• Produce technical documentation and deliver design presentations in review meetings with suppliers and stakeholders.
• Perform structural and thermal analysis and carry out mechanical testing to verify compliance with design requirements.
• Select and develop appropriate materials and manufacturing techniques.
• Support Engineering LCM processes and assist with governance and requirements capture activities.
• Build positive relationships across engineering disciplines, suppliers and stakeholder communities.
• Undertake continuous professional development to enhance personal competence.

Required profile

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering with a solid grasp of mathematical and engineering fundamentals.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and a broad mechanical engineering capability.
• Interest in developing specialist expertise in structural or thermal analysis.
• Progress towards or attainment of IEng/CEng status.
