Senior Registered Building Inspector

About the role

Buckinghamshire Council is recruiting a Senior Registered Building Inspector (Grade 8) for its Building Control service, one of the largest local authority teams in the country. The post holder advises the Council on the compliance of building regulation applications, assesses plans, inspects sites and investigates unauthorised works. The role is mobile, with flexible working and remote work from anywhere.

Key responsibilities

• Perform restricted building control activities within the scope of their registration, advising the Council on building regulation applications
• Assess construction plans and determine on-site compliance through inspections, writing detailed plan assessment reports and inspection notes
• Manage statutory consultations with fire authorities and sewerage undertakers
• Design an inspection framework for each application, considering risk profile and available resources
• Determine the adequacy of information for Building Notice applications and highlight what is still needed
• Inspect sites, including at height, and liaise with dutyholders to ensure notices are provided on time
• Advise on unauthorised building work and regularisation, and investigate and inspect suspected contraventions of Building Regulations
• Support the Building Safety Regulator through Multi-Disciplinary Teams and other collaborative initiatives

Required profile

• Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2A-F as a minimum, able to carry out restricted activities independently
• Building Control experience and a strong working knowledge of the Building Act 1984 and Building Regulations 2010
• Excellent organisational skills, communication skills and the ability to work autonomously
• Ideally holds membership of a recognised professional body such as CABE, CIOB or RICS
