Senior Registrar Doctor – Critical Care & Anaesthetics (Fellowship)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Registrar Doctor to join our Critical Care Unit (CCU) and Anaesthetics service on a six‑month fellowship, extendable to twelve months based on performance. The post is based at the Royal Marsden’s Sutton site with additional daytime sessions at the Fulham Road site, offering a unique opportunity to develop expertise in critical care within a specialist cancer hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 24‑ to 48‑hour on‑call coverage for the three‑bed CCU at Sutton, including weekend on‑call (1 in 6) and average weekday night duties.
• Lead and support the Critical Care Outreach Service, ensuring safe management of deteriorating patients across the Trust.
• Deliver anaesthetic sessions as required, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in both oncology and critical care settings.
• Participate in teaching, audit and quality‑improvement activities related to critical care and anaesthesia.

Required profile

• Completed anaesthetic specialist registrar training (post‑CCT acceptable).
• Desire to gain further experience in critical care medicine, preferably in an oncology environment.
• Eligibility for Out of Programme for Experience (OOPE) or similar career‑break arrangements.
• Commitment to the on‑call rota and ability to work flexible hours.

Required skills

• Proficiency in critical care medicine, including ventilator management and haemodynamic support.
• Competence in anaesthetic techniques for surgical and procedural cases.
• Leadership and teamwork skills to coordinate outreach services.
